A Christchurch woman has appeared in court charged over the theft of mail from several letterboxes across Canterbury.

Anna Leigh Hunter is accused of stealing mail worth about $60 from properties at Christchurch, West Melton and Kaiapoi in September and October.

The 34-year-old appeared in Christchurch District Court on Monday.

Duty lawyer Moana Cole asked that the case be adjourned for several weeks, adding that she understood one of the charges would be amended to show that one of the items allegedly stolen was worth over $1000.

A number of bail conditions were set for Hunter, including that she not visit the Selwyn or Waimakariri districts.

Hunter is due to reappear on October 31.
