Woman pleads guilty to Filipino visa scam

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 17/08/2016

A Waikato woman has pleaded guilty to 284 fraud-related charges over a complex document scam to help get Filipino workers into New Zealand.

Lorraine Anne Jayme, 35, was arrested in October after an investigation launched by Immigration New Zealand found more than 1000 dairy workers had been caught out by the scam.

The workers paid thousands of dollars for the fraudulent visas and when the scandal broke the Filipino national was sent death threats via email.

On Wednesday she admitted to the charges which included multiple counts of forgery, using forged documents, supplying false information and obtaining by deception.

Jayme was remanded on bail for sentencing at the Hamilton District Court in October
