Woman to stand trial for toddler's murder

A 65-year-old woman will stand trial next year accused of the murder of a toddler in south Auckland.

Kathleen Elizabeth Cooper appeared in the High Court at Auckland on Wednesday charged with the two-year-old boy's death in Manurewa last year.

Police said the child was admitted to Starship Hospital with head injuries on December 13 and died five days later.

Cooper denies the charge and a trial date has been set down for July next year.

She was remanded on bail and will appear again in December.
