All Whites striker Chris Wood sits astride the top of the English Championship goal-scoring list after a match-winning effort for Leeds United.

Wood bagged the lone goal in the 1-0 win over promotion rivals Sheffield Wednesday to lift the home side one place to fourth.

The 25-year-old, given space in the 24th minute as Wednesday appealed unsuccessfully for offside, stabbed home from inside the penalty area.

It was his 20th league goal and his 23rd across all competitions this season. He has netted nine goals in 10 games since New Year's Day.

Wood is level with Dwight Gayle from leaders Newcastle on 20 league goals. Gayle has barely played in the last two months because of a hamstring problem.

The centre forward credited the faith shown in him by Leeds manager Garry Monk for his golden form.

"I feel good. I'm in a good mood and feel like I can score every time I step onto the field," Wood told Sky Sports.

"But the gaffer and the coaching staff have instilled confidence in me, so I put it down to them. Without them I wouldn't be able to do what I'm doing and I hope it can continue."

It is still possible that Wood could score league goals against all 23 Championship clubs this season, having done so against 16 different opponents so far.
