World age group mark for Ballantyne

Hamilton teenager Ryan Ballantyne has thrown a world leading under-18 distance in the shot put at the New Zealand secondary schools athletics championships in Auckland.

Ballantyne, 17, launched the 5kg shot out to 21.66m, 15cm further than anybody his age this year.

Coming into the meet with a personal best of 20.04m, the St Paul's Collegiate student exceeded it five times.

Ballantyne represented New Zealand at the 2015 world youth championships.
