New Zealand has picked up two medals on the penultimate day of racing at the final sailing World Cup of the year in Melbourne.

Olivia Mackay and Micah Wilkinson took silver in the Nacra 17 mixed fleet after a week of close racing with Rio Olympic silver medallists Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin.

The Australian pair claimed gold, finishing first or second in every race barring their discard, where they took 11th.

Mackay and Wilkinson never finished outside the top three, but had to be content with second place on 21 points to Waterhouse and Darmanin's 12.

New Zealand's second medal came in the 49er fleet where Josh Porebski and Trent Rippey sailed a consistent regatta to win bronze.

Fellow Kiwis Isaac McHardie and William McKenzie, who led at the halfway stage, came back from a DNC in the penultimate race after suffering a broken rig to finish sixth overall.
