Former New Zealand and India head coach John Wright will be Derbyshire's specialist coach for their Twenty20 campaign next summer.

The 62-year-old has a highly successful record on and off the field as a former batsman for New Zealand and Derbyshire, before taking charge of India, his native country and Mumbai Indians.

Derbyshire director of cricket Kim Barnett said: "We could not have secured anybody with higher pedigree than John to fill this new role.

"He has won the IPL with the Mumbai Indians, been an international coach and was a great player at Derbyshire.

"He is a fantastic strategist and will give us a lot of expertise technically and tactically."
