A-League players will cop a yellow card if they urge referees to video review a decision.

Video reviews will be available from Friday night's Melbourne City versus Adelaide game as the A-League becomes the first top-tier competition in the world to use the technology.

Adelaide defender Michael Marrone says players have been told they will receive a yellow card if they urge a referee to use a video review.
