Yorkshire's fight for Aust coach Gillespie

Press AssociationPress Association 22/04/2016

Yorkshire might face a struggle to hold on to dual county championship-winning coach Jason Gillespie if Australia try to recruit him at season's end.

Gillespie has led Yorkshire to successive titles and was on the short-list last year to replace Peter Moores as England coach - a role eventually taken by his compatriot Trevor Bayliss.

Australia are without a bowling coach, following Craig McDermott's departure.

Gillespie's credentials as a former fast bowler for his native country are obvious and Australian coach Darren Lehmann has confirmed he is sure to be in the running.

"Gillespie will certainly be at forefront with other bowling coaches," Lehmann told Adelaide's FIVEaa radio.

Australia are not expected to name a new bowling coach until the start of their domestic season by which time Yorkshire and Gillespie hope to have sealed a hat-trick of consecutive championships.

The 41-year-old also coaches Big Bash League franchise, the Adelaide Strikers, in Yorkshire's off-season.

"We hope we can entice him back," Lehmann added.
