Hawke's Bay earthquake

Remaining New Zealand's deadliest natural disaster, the 7.8 magnitude quake lasted two and a half minutes. Nearly all buildings in the central areas of Napier and Hastings were levelled. The Dominion noted that "Napier as a town has been wiped off the map".
