Activists chained to NZ research ship

Five Greenpeace activists have locked themselves to a New Zealand government-owned ship that's docked in Wellington. The activists have shackled themselves to the top mast of the Tangaroa, a NIWA climate and ocean research ship. The environmental group alleges the ship has been surveying for oil off the east coast of North Island on behalf of oil companies Statoil and Chevron. Greenpeace campaigner Steve Abel says the ship is a symbol of the New Zealand government's obsession with oil.
