Greenpeace opposes council vote on deep sea oil drilling

Greenpeace activists gathered this morning in front of the Town hall to ask the Auckland Council not to support the government’s oil drilling programme off the city’s west coast. “Why would you take the risk of deep sea oil drilling when they are much better alternative available to fossil fuels,” says climate campaigner and activist Emily Armistead. The council heard presentations before voting on the matter. Greenpeace climate and energy campaigner Steve Abel called on the council to have the “political courage” to vote no on the issue.
