Why you should watch “Corpse Bride” this Halloween

Whimsically macabre, visually imaginative, and emotionally bittersweet, “Corpse Bride” is the perfect movie to watch this Halloween if you are in Wellington. The film with play at Nga Taonga Sound and Vision this Saturday at 4pm. With a lot of Dickens and a touch of The Brother’s Grimm, director Tim Burton again masters the dark but fanciful animated style of “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, with this clever, witty and melancholy stop-motion black comedy. “Corpse Bride” was nominated for the 78th Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and is based on a 19th-century Russian folktale, in which a young man mistakenly weds a corpse while on a two-day trek to the village of his real bride-to-be.
