Steel overcome deficit to beat Tactix

The Southern Steel rebounded from a horror start to down the Mainland Tactix 64-56 in their ANZ netball Premiership in Christchurch on Wednesday.

An upset looked on the cards at Horncastle Arena as the Tactix raced to a 13-goal lead after the first quarter, before the Steel worked their way back into the match to claim their 11th win this season and sixth in a row.

Down 22-9, the Steel burst into life in the second quarter and by halftime had cut the Tactix's lead to just a single goal at 30-29.  

The Steel hit the lead for the first time two minutes into the third quarter, and they never looked back,

In the final quarter, the Steel led by as many as 11 before the Tactix closed the gap to eight at the fulltime siren.

Steel shooters Lenize Potgieter (44 from 48 attempts) and Te Paea Selby-Rickit (20 from 21) combined to make 64 from 69 of their shots.

For the Tactix, Ellie Bird (45 from 56), Kate Beveridge (eight from 10) and Brooke Leaver (three from five) made finished 56 from 71.

The Tactix have one game remaining this season against the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic on Sunday, while the Steel host the Northern Stars on Wednesday, before the two teams square off again on May 29 for a spot in the Grand Final.
