One of Conor McGregor's chief training partners believes the Irishman could shock Floyd Mayweather.

The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas has reportedly been booked for June 10 for a bout that could generate up to $500m.

Mayweather said last week that he was officially out of retirement and ready to face the UFC's lightweight champion.

And Gunnar Nelson, who trains with McGregor in Ireland, said McGregor's focus is solely on the former pound-for-pound No.1.

"He's more training boxing now, getting ready for the Mayweather bout.

"That’s the focus right now. He’s around but I didn’t train with him this time."

Welterweight Nelson returns to the Octagon against Alan Jouban in London on Saturday.

And he added: “It’s going to generate a lot of money. I think that’s the idea of it all. Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor is not a legitimate sporting event - it's a shameless, grotesque mismatch

"But I just know that Mayweather has struggled with southpaws.

“Conor is also bigger than him. Mayweather is almost always the bigger guy, except maybe when he fought Canelo.

"Conor has the reach as well. I think Conor could trick him in his own game. I’m just looking forward to seeing it.”
