Hope Solo won't return to Seattle Reign this season 30/08/2016

© Provided by The Seattle Reign have announced that goalkeeper Hope Solo will not return to the club this season, just days after her U.S. Soccer contract was terminated.

U.S. Soccer announced last week that Solo was suspended six months and her contract with the federation was terminated after her comments calling Sweden "cowards" following the USA's shootout loss in the Olympic quarterfinal.

SOLO: 'Seventeen f------ years and it's over!'

On Tuesday, the Reign and Solo both confirmed that the World Cup winner would not return to her club team this season.

Reign coach Laura Harvey said in a team statement: “While disappointed that Hope will not return to Reign FC this season, we understand and respect her decision. Hope has always wanted what is best for our team. She demands from herself nothing less than excellence on the pitch."

Solo also released a statement, saying of a return: "Mentally, I am not there yet."

At 35 and without the possibility to play for any team until next spring at the earliest, Solo's career could hang in the balance.
