All Blacks back Ma'a Nonu will leave for the Rugby World Cup a day after his teammates after falling ill.

The rest of the 31-strong New Zealand squad are due to fly out from Auckland tonight.

"Ma'a is feeling a bit crook, so as a precaution he is staying an extra day in Auckland and will fly out to London tomorrow," coach Steve Hansen said.

The 33-year-old Nonu, part of New Zealand's cup-winning campaign in 2011, has been in excellent form this year and will head to the tournament three short of bringing up 100 caps.

The All Blacks' first pool match is against Argentina at Wembley on September 21 (NZT).
