LeBron James has urged ‘little brother’ Ben Simmons to take a conservative approach to his recovery from a broken foot.

Simmons suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot in the final scrimmage of training camp on Saturday (AEDT).

The Sixers are yet to officially confirm the No.1 draft pick will undergo surgery, but the Australian is expected to go under the knife in the coming days and miss at least three months of action.

Asked by reporters today his reaction when he heard the news about Simmons’ injury, James, who shares the same agent as the Aussie, replied: “Probably the same as everybody else including Philly.

“It's like, 'Damn.' That's the first thing that came to my mind and knowing that's a very delicate injury.

“I don’t know the severity of it but I’ve heard three or four months.

“He's a young guy. He's got to make sure he's patient and not get frustrated with the process because obviously I know I would want to get on the floor.

“But he has a long career in front of him and he just has to be patient, let the foot heal and when he gets back on the floor then he'll show why he's the No. 1 pick."

James added when asked if he plans to counsel the boom rookie about his recovery: “I’ve already done that and I’ll continue to do it. He’s like a little brother of mine. I’ve been with him and counselling him for four or five years now and I’ll continue to do that.”
