Karolina Pliskova captured the eighth WTA title of her career in Doha on Saturday after beating Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets.

The second seed enjoyed a breakthrough season last year, and her good form seems to be continuing in 2017.

Wozniacki, who had also produced her best performance in some time to reach the final, started badly and was never able to recover from it.

Pliskova broke twice in the opening three games to race to a 4-0 lead, and even though Wozniacki hit back to regain one of those lost breaks, another followed at 3-5 as Pliskova went one set up.

Wozniacki was much more competitive in the second set, and matched her opponent stroke for stroke in the opening nine games.

But Pliskova was able to pounce one final time at 4-5 to set up a break, match and championship point, converting it immediately after forcing Wozniacki to bury her return into the net.

"I think I'm having a great start to the year, which is always important," Pliskova said after the match.

"To beat players like Cibulkova and Wozniacki is something amazing. I've never beat them before, but I was trying really hard this week so I'm really happy with my wins here."

Wozniacki said: "To be here in the final is something to be really proud of, the way I've been playing this week.

"I'm very disappointed with the loss but Karolina was playing really well. She deserved this one, but I'm going to try to get my revenge next time."
