Ben Barba has reportedly been let go by French rugby club Toulon after a lacklustre start to his rugby career.

Reports speculating Barba was on the nose with eccentric owner Mourad Boudjellal surfaced within the French media last week.

Toulon are yet to officially release the former Dally M medal winner.

But according to multiple reports Barba has been informed his services will no longer be required despite having a full season to run on his lucrative two-year deal.

The 27-year-old copped a 12-match ban from the NRL for testing positive to cocaine following Cronulla’s grand-final triumph over Melbourne.

He decided to head to France rather than stay in Sydney to serve his suspension.

But things haven’t gone as planned, with Barba managing just one start in Toulon’s run-on side since deciding to join the French glamour club.

Should he opt to return to the NRL, Barba’s suspension won’t commence until he has signed a contract with a club, making him unavailable until at least the end of the regular season.

There is some speculation the former Canterbury, Brisbane and Sharks full-back is considering staying in France to continue his rugby career.

However, multiple NRL clubs will make a play for the enigmatic full-back if he decides to return to home soil and rugby league.
