Should Sergio Aguero be banned from the Manchester derby for his clash with Winston Reid?

The Manchester City striker appeared to aim an elbow at West Ham's New Zealand defender during the second-half of Sunday's win for the hosts at the Etihad.

Ultimately Aguero only caught Reid with a glancing blow from his hand and referee Andre Marriner - who was well-placed - did not blow for a foul. But the centre-back was substituted after the incident and the Sky Sports pundits debated in the studio whether the City ace could be handed a ban from the Football Association.

Thierry Henry: "He's throwing his elbow, I don't think he catches him with his elbow but he catches him with his hand, his fist. But there's definitely contact. The referee has a good view of it, he doesn't do anything. Winston Reid comes off holding his throat. There might be a little problem for him there.

Niall Quinn: "I felt once he drew his arm in to make that contact - OK, he may have flattened it out at the last second - but I thought there was intent there to put hurt or damage on the player. I think he's a very lucky boy. I think he should have been sent off."

Jamie Redknapp: "He definitely clenched his fist. If you're an opponent - and we know who's playing them next - [Jose Mourinho] will be thinking the FA will surely get involved.

"If that's Diego Costa, I've no doubt there would be some retrospective banning. But Aguero's never been sent off in 212 games for Man City. Is that really in his nature? I'd have to say no.

"But the worst thing is how could the referee not see that? He's looking right at it. That's the problem. The FA can step in if they want to.

"I don't think anyone wants to see Sergio Aguero banned. Of course we don't. But it doesn't look good. I agree with Niall, I think he has a problem."

Quinn: "He didn't do anything to help himself win the ball. It was just something that was just a little bit nasty that said, 'right, I'm going to leave something on you'. Even though he drew his arm he didn't get the player in the jaw or anything as bad as that and he may have withdrawn the power in it in the last second. When you're in that position you sometimes can pull back a little bit. The ref was very close to it. It will be looked at."

Redknapp: "There's the element of doubt, though. Can you be conclusive with it? Aguero is almost ducking out of the way as well. Perhaps the fact he's so much smaller than him is lucky for Winston Reid. There's a big difference in the height. If he's the same height as him and he throws his elbow like that…"

Quinn: "If I was the player on the receiving end of that I would be very unhappy."
