Dual international Sonny Bill Williams is in danger of losing his role as an ambassador for BMW New Zealand over concerns about his alleged association with controversial religious leaders, according to reports.

It is understood BMW began receiving complaints about Williams shortly after he was unveiled Williams as the company’s newest spokesperson in late 2016.

According to Fairfax Media, BMW is now “re-looking” at the All Black and former NRL star’s deal.

At the heart of the controversy are Menk’s comments in 2013 that homosexuals are ‘worse than animals’.

Williams’ relationship with South African-based Menk has been documented on social media and sparked several complaints posted on BMW New Zealand’s Facebook page, promptingthe company’s ongoing investigation.

According to Fairfax, BMW will make a decision on Williams’ association with the company by the end of this month.
