Tedesco: Ivan Cleary contributed to my Wests Tigers departure

© Provided by Sportal com au James Tedesco claims he may have stayed at the Wests Tigers if new coach Ivan Cleary didn't impose a public deadline on his signature.

The 24-year-old signed a four-year deal with the Roosters on Thursday and when asked if he could have remained at Concord, Tedesco said the Tigers stance on his future forced his hand.

"Yeah, possibly. We needed more time and they wanted the decision quickly," Tedesco told C91.3FM

"We both said then that we weren't ready to make a decision yet and he was pretty adamant that he wanted an answer by the end of the week.

"They made it public too, which was a bit - I don't know, I didn't really think there was a need for that. It would just play out more in the media."

Cleary was unveiled as Jason Taylor's replacement in early April and immediately called on the big four - James Tedesco, Aaron Woods, Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks - to make decisions on their future as soon as possible.

Since then Moses (Parramatta), Woods (Bulldogs) and Tedesco (Roosters) have left the club - with Brooks the only to re-sign.
