Wanaka's Jossi Wells has eased through to the slopestyle finals at the freestyle ski World Cup at Quebec City in Canada.

Wells finished third in his heat courtesy of an 87-point second run, fractionally astray of second-placed Norwegian Christian Nummedal (87.66) and Alex Bellmare of Canada on 88.66.

Wells' youngest brother, Jackson, placed sixth on 82 points in an extremely competitive third heat, won with 93.33 by Jonas Hunziker of Switzerland.

Compatriot Finn Bilous just missed the top-four cut off in heat two, finishing fifth on 80.33, with Englishman James Woods's 88.66 topping the 17-strong field.

The New Zealanders are looking to collect points to qualify nation spots for next year's winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Jossi Wells finished 11th in freeski slopestyle and fourth in the halfpipe at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
