Tasman have moved back atop the Mitre 10 Cup premiership with a convincing 29-0 victory over Hawke's Bay in Nelson.

In miserable rainy conditions, both teams struggled to get on the scoreboard during the first half. Mitch Hunt's 27th-minute penalty was the only difference between the rivals, until the stroke of half-time, when lock Paripari Parkinson finally crossed for a try.

Ahead 10-0 at the break, the Mako shut their opponents out of the contest over the second 40 minutes, with second-five Tim O'Malley grabbing a try soon after the restart.

Hunt and reserve halfback Jack Grooby also had late tries, both converted by Hunt.

The result sees Tasman edge ahead of Auckland at the head of the premiership ladder, closing out the regular season with nine wins from 10 games. Their sole loss came at the hands of the blue-and-whites.

Auckland have a chance to secure the regular season title with victory over North Harbour on Sunday, but the Mako have at least wrapped up a home semi-final.

The Magpies are also assured of a championship semi-final spot - that would be a home fixture, if Waikato can beat Otago on Saturday.
