Mike Tyson bites Evander Holyfield’s ear

On June 28, 1997, Mike Tyson (L) faced Evander Holyfield (R) in a much-anticipated match in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. During the bout, Tyson grabbed Holyfield and bit his ear. The match was temporarily halted and the referee penalized Tyson by cutting two points. As the fight resumed, Tyson bit Holyfield again, this time getting disqualified and losing the bout. Holyfield actually lost a part of his ear during the fight. Tyson explained later that he had retaliated after Holyfield had headbutted him repeatedly without penalty. He was fined $3 million and his boxing license was pulled until October 1998. He later apologized to Holyfield.
