Cultural treasures lost in wars and conflict

From the city of Troy and Royal Opera House in Malta to the Buddhas of Bamiyan and monuments in Syria, wars and violence have left a permanent scar on our cultural heritage. We take a look at some of the monuments and works of art from around the world that were destroyed in armed conflicts in ancient times and recent years.
