Angkor Wat, Cambodia

Widely regarded as one of the most important archaeological sites in the world, the largest religious monument spans 162.6 hectares (402 acres). Before being transformed into a Buddhist Temple in the 12th century, Angkor Wat is believed to have been constructed as a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Its design symbolizes Mount Meru, a scared mountain with five peaks in Hindu, Jain and Buddhist cosmology.
