In his autobiography, the Pillowtalk singer said: ‘Something I’ve never talked about in public before, but which I have come to terms with since leaving the band, is that I was suffering from an eating disorder.

‘I’d just go for days – sometimes two or three days straight – without eating anything at all. It got quite serious, although at the time I didn’t recognise it for what it was.

Zayn said he lost so much weight at one point people began to ask whether was he abusing drugs.

Since leaving the band, Zayn has also revealed he suffers from an anxiety disorder which has hindered his solo work.

Last month he was forced to pull out of a gig in Dubai due to his ongoing anxiety problems.

He was due to perform at the Autism Rocks Arena however he revealed his crippling anxiety has forced him to withdraw from the performance.

He said he is not ‘sufficiently confident’ to do the gig.
