A 71-year-old woman has been killed during an early-morning walk north of Brisbane after a car mounted the footpath and mowed her down.

She was walking with another woman, aged 74, at Kippa Ring just before 6am on Sunday when a hatchback travelling along Anzac Avenue veered off the road and onto the footpath, police said.

The 71-year-old woman died at the scene while the other woman and the 31-year old male driver were taken to the Redcliffe Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
