AC Milan beat Juventus in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw Friday, to lift their third domestic trophy this year after the Serie A league and Italian cup titles clinched in May.

Milan, who played the game as Italian cup finalists, struggled at the start and fell behind to a Giorgio Chiellini deflection, but levelled with a Giacomo Bonaventura header before half-time and saw substitute Mario Pasalic net the crucial spot kick.

Juve produced early chances from Stefano Sturaro, Mario Mandzukic and Alex Sandro in a hammering start before Giorgio Chiellini deflected a corner kick past Gianluigi Donnarumma on 18 minutes.

Juve captain Gianluigi Buffon idled between his posts only watching a Suso drive roll wide, but was beaten in the 38th minute as the Spanish winger centred a taut cross for the winning header from Giacomo Bonaventura.

Milan's pace was brisker after the break with defender Alessio Romagnoli nodding a cross against the bar in the 57th, while Juve's Sami Khedira forced a great save on the hour, firing centrally four minutes later.

Paulo Dybala came on for a three-pronged attack next to the indifferent Gonzalo Higuain and Mandzukic, but fired wide his first chance and allowed an easy save on the second with 10 minutes left.

Three minutes later Buffon's save was miraculous on a downward header by Carlos Bacca, who had a goal-mouth chance blocked by Chiellini early in extra time before being replaced by Gianluca Lapadula.

Dybala then missed a late deflection and had Juve's last penalty saved before Pasalic's winner as Milan prevailed 4-3 in the shootout.

"I do not know what I thought after Pasalic's penalty. It is a joy I cannot describe," Donnarumma said.

"We knew we had to give our maximum and played level with Juve.

"(Coach Vincenzo) Montella gave us something special. We try to do all the things he asks from us and we want to thank him."
