A 28-year-old Perth mother facing criminal charges for leaving her four and six-year-old daughter home alone while she went overseas has dumped her lawyer, a court heard.

The heavily pregnant mother, from Cloverdale in Perth's northeast, was not happy with the advice she was getting, said lawyer Edward Fitzpatrick who retired from the case.

The woman was also forced to go into custody on Wednesday because her bail had expired and although it was renewed she could not be released until the person who put up the $5000 surety for her turned up to the Perth Magistrates Court.

The woman is facing child neglect charges after allegedly leaving her two children at home while she went to Bali to renew her visa in June while her husband was in the US at the time.

The children remain in the care of the Department for Child Protection.

The case was adjourned to September 14.
