Adam Garcia has withdrawn from the remainder of the Australian tour of Singin' In The Rain because of ongoing issues with an injury he picked up while on stage.

The actor had been forced to pull out of the lead role of Don Lockwood in June with a torn calf muscle - which happened while he was on stage performing in the musical during its Melbourne run.

Garcia, who has missed all of the musical's Sydney dates thus far, was hoping to be back in action within six weeks but the injury is more extensive than he previously thought and he has pulled out of the rest of the Australian tour.

"The word disappointed does not begin to convey how I'm feeling with having to step away from this dream role and the fantastic cast and crew I was having so much fun with," Garcia said.

"The injury sustained has proven to be more extensive and complicated than initially diagnosed. The length of the recovery time and the risk of recurrence has made it impossible for me to continue in the production."

Actors Grant Almirall and Rob Mallett will continue to share the leading role for the remainder of the tour, including the rest of the Sydney dates before heading to Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

"I wish my fellow cast members all the best with the remainder of the tour as they truly are a most talented and hard working group of people, which I have had the pleasure of calling my colleagues," Garcia said.

The Australian production was nominated for three Helpmann Award this year: Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for Jack Chambers and Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for Erika Heynatz and Best Choreography in a Musical.
