All Whites need to lift: Hudson

Coach Anthony Hudson saw enough in the All Whites' 2-0 win over New Caledonia in Auckland on Saturday to demand more when the two teams meet again in Kone on Tuesday.

A Marco Rojas double saw the New Zealanders comfortably home in the World Cup qualifier at QBE Stadium, but Hudson says they'll need a tighter performance at Stade Yoshida if they want an away win.

If Les Cagous were a challenge in Auckland, they'll be even more difficult on home soil, and in the draining humidity of Kone, where temperatures are expected to top 30 degrees.

"It's going to be tough," Hudson said.

"They did a very good job on Saturday of sitting in, defending and trying to catch us on the break."

Hudson says his team had to work hard to keep a clean sheet, with the visitors creating some promising chances.

"We've identified three or four areas where we know we can improve, and that'll be the focus.

"I think we just know ultimately that we're capable of far more than that. We all know that, and we want to see the difference in the game on Tuesday."

Skipper Chris Wood, leading the All Whites in the absence of the injured Winston Reid, says there were enough positives in New Zealand's opening win to give him confidence for the away leg

"We came out there with a good, professional performance," he said.

"We created a lot of chances, and nullified their's to a minimum. That's what we'd like to do again here."

Wood says the All Whites are well aware they'll have to work hard for the win, with the memory of their 2-0 upset loss to New Caledonia in the 2012 Oceania Nations Cup all the motivation they need.

And even though they won by a relatively comfortable two goals in Auckland on Saturday, New Caledonia created more than enough opportunities to keep the All Whites defence scrambling.

"They did well," Wood said.

"There were a couple of half-chances they created, and if we don't watch it we'll be in trouble.

"But I think we've got enough quality in the squad to nullify that."
