A young man accused of stabbing an off-duty Victoria Police officer between the eyes during a violent home invasion has been remanded in custody.

Jade Hunia, 19, is accused of breaking into the Wantirna South home of Senior Constable Daniel Yeoman and stabbing the officer before stealing a Hyundai iMax.

Sporting a rat-tail and a large white T-shirt, Hunia did not apply for bail in his brief appearance via video link in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Hunia is charged with armed robbery, intentionally causing injury, assault, aggravated burglary and vehicle theft.

He will return to court in February for a committal mention hearing.
