Comedian Amy Schumer has cancelled her Australian stand-up tour just five days before she was due to perform in Perth.

The 35-year-old New Yorker had a string of shows scheduled for later this month, with stops in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney from December 10 to 15.

She was also due to perform across the ditch in Auckland on December 17.

But a press release from Live Nation on Monday morning confirmed the tour would not go ahead or be rescheduled due to the Emmy-winner's tight schedule.

"Live Nation regret to announce that Amy Schumer's December tour dates will not go ahead due to illness," it read.

"Unfortunately, due to Amy Schumer's tight schedule it is not possible to schedule replacement dates however, we will be working to confirm a return to Australia as soon as is practical."

Fans were told they would be fully refunded within 10 days.

The Amy Schumer Live tour would have marked the comedian's first tour of Australia and New Zealand.

In 2015, the Inside Amy Schumer star gave a one-off performance in Melbourne while promoting her romantic comedy film, Trainwreck.

The press junket ending up making headlines for all the wrong reasons when KIIS FM presenter Matt Tilley suggested Schumer's character was a "skank" during an interview.

Schumer is yet to personally comment on the tour cancellation on social media.

Further refund enquiries should be directed to Ticketek on 132 849.
