Japan's All Nippon Airways will begin to operate the first daily direct flights between Tokyo and Mexico City from February 2017.

The new route will be ANA's longest, and will be operated using a 169-passenger capacity Boeing Dreamliner 787-8.

"We are proud to be the first airline to operate direct, daily flights between Japan and Mexico to better serve the growing business and leisure demands between our two countries," ANA President Osamu Shinobe said.

Japan's direct investment in Mexico has increased 2.7 times since 2010, according to Japan External Trade Organisation, and the number of Japanese firms in the North American country has also doubled, according to the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo.

"We hope our flight will also contribute to a closer bilateral relationship, economic prosperity and cultural exchange," Shinobe said.

The flight will complement the already existing direct flight on code sharing agreement between Japan Airline and Aeromexico between the two capitals.
