A balaclava-wearing man has fired a sawn-off shotgun after robbing a supermarket in NSW's Riverina region and terrorising two employees.

The man confronted the employees at the Narrandera supermarket around 8.40pm on Thursday, demanding cash and cigarettes - which he was given - before he fled on foot.

He then fired the shotgun at a glass door as he left the store.
