A man has been arrested for threatening a woman in her driveway, stealing her car and later driving at police while leading them on a dangerous afternoon pursuit through residential streets.

The 42-year-old woman had driven into the driveway of her home at Geographe, south of Perth, at 2.20pm on Monday when she was confronted by the man who drove off in her Holden Rodeo.

The man was seen allegedly running down a school crossing warning light.

He also drove through the front fence of a property while evading police and officers had to take evasive action when he drove directly at them, police said in a statement.

He continued to drive erratically, causing cars to drive onto road verges to avoid collisions and police stopped the pursuit.

He was later found and tried to evade police again but stopped because of damage to the car and was arrested.

A 33-year-old West Busselton man was charged with various offences and will appear in a Bunbury court on Tuesday.
