A man has been arrested after he and another man allegedly robbed a South Australian service station by threatening its attendant with a hammer.

The two men stole cash and cigarettes from a Mount Gambier service station early on Tuesday by wielding the tool. The worker was not injured, police say.

A 25-year-old Mount Gambier man has been charged with aggravated robbery but police are still trying to identify the second suspect.
