A man under arrest has managed to hijack a police car before crashing it and injuring two officers north of Brisbane.

Police first confronted the man while responding to a break-and-enter at a house in the Caboolture suburb of Bellmere on Tuesday morning.

The man drove off from the house and abandoned his vehicle but was arrested a short time later, police said.

He was put in the rear of the police car, but managed to jump into the driver's seat when the officers stopped to respond to another matter on a nearby street.

But he only drove the marked police car a short distance before crashing it into a bollard, police said.

Two male officers were injured during the incident.

The man was re-arrested and is being questioned by police.
