About 40 administration staff at the Royal Hobart Hospital have been relocated after an asbestos scare.

The hospital is being renovated and on Wednesday material fell from the ceiling in an office space, Tasmanian Health Service operations director Wendy Rowell said in a statement on Friday.

"I am advised that while it has now been confirmed as containing asbestos, air sampling has concluded the air is safe," she said, adding that the incident posed a low risk and that the area has been cordoned off and appropriately cleaned.
