ATM blown up in Sydney's south

An ATM in Sydney's south has been blown up, with thieves allegedly making off with the cash drawer.

Police say the ATM in Menai has been left smoking and damaged following an explosion and apparent robbery about 4am on Thursday.

A crime scene has been established at the Bank of Queensland cash machine on Carter Road and police will be reviewing CCTV footage as part of their investigation.
