Australian pair Ethan Ewing and Macy Callaghan have made the most of small waves at Kiama to claim emphatic title wins at the world junior surfing championships.

In two-foot surf at Bombo Beach on the NSW south coast on Monday, 18-year-old Ewing easily accounted for American Griffin Colapinto 11.34 to 1.97 in the final.

Ewing, from North Stradbroke in Queensland, joins an illustrious list of junior world champions including Joel Parkinson, Gabriel Medina Andy Irons.

"Coming into this event as the top seed gave me confidence from the get go and ... it all just went to plan," Ewing said.

By finishing runner-up on the qualifying tour last year, Ewing booked himself a spot on the top-tier championship tour in 2017, which starts close to home on the Gold Coast in March.

Callaghan, from Avoca on the NSW central coast, was just as dominant in her final, defeating Hawaiian Mahina Maeda 15.67 to 4.60.

The talented 16-year-old's win comes only a few months after compatriot Tyler Wright was crowned world champion.

"Once I got the 8.17 I knew I was in a good position and could just keep building on it, then my confidence just kept building," Callaghan said.
