Aussie goalkeeper blunders in Man U rout

Feyenoord's Australian goalkeeper Brad Jones has had a night to forget at Old Trafford.

A rampant Manchester United put four goals past the 34-year-old in their Europa League clash on Thursday night (Friday AEDT), including an embarrassing own goal.

Aside from a spectacular effort to tip a Juan Mata chip over the crossbar, Jones failed to prevent Wayne Rooney, Mata and Jesse Lingard breaching his Dutch club's defence.

Jones, who has played the bulk of the Erdivisie leader's season with first-choice stopper Kenneth Vermeer injured, could do little to stop Rooney becoming United's all-time leading scorer in Europe.

Rooney was on the end of a Zlatan Ibrahimovic pass to finish from point blank range in the 35th minute.

Four-cap Socceroo Jones was also caught out midway through the second half when Rooney found Mata in the box following a turnover by Feyenoord deep in their own territory.

But Jones' worst moment came in the 75th minute when an Ibrahimovic cross deflected off the inside of his left foot and into the back of the net to give the home side a three-goal advantage.

Jones kept out a powerful strike from Lingard late in the game before the substitute had the last laugh in injury time, curling in a shot the goalkeeper could only reach with his fingertips.
