Calls to ban jumps racing have been reignited with the death of a horse following the final steeplechase of the Australian season.

The Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses on Monday called for the Victorian government to outlaw jumps racing after the death of eight-year-old gelding Arwoc in Coleraine on Sunday.

Racing Victoria says the horse is the 18th to die in Victorian jumps races since 2010.

The CPR says a further 22 horses have also died as a result of injuries sustained in jumps races and trials across the country since 2010.
