A suspicious blaze has ripped through a crash repair business in a historic South Australian town, causing $1 million in damage.

Dozens of firefighters took more than an hour to control the fire in the workshop of Seaford Crash Repairs in Old Noarlunga at about 2.30am on Thursday.

The owner and his family, who live behind the workshop, escaped the fire unharmed and the Metropolitan Fire Service is treating the blaze as suspicious.
