A body believed to be that of a man who went missing after jumping from a cliff face into a river in Western Australia's far north has been found.

Police found the body on Tuesday morning about 400 metres from where the man, believed to be in his 30s, was last seen in the Ord River in Kununurra.

He was on a private boat with a group of people on Sunday morning when he jumped about 20 metres into the water.

Senior Sergeant Steve Principe said the tourist jumped in feet first, floated to the surface, then slowly slipped back under water.

The body has not been formally identified, but overseas family of the missing man have been kept up to date with developments.
