When international music act Bon Iver posted a Melbourne address on Facebook in a cryptic message to his two million fans the cafe at that address was inundated with calls.

Unfortunately for fans, the Kanye West collaborator is not doing a show at the Fitzroy venue.

"Sir Charles cafe, it's fantastic, but we're not hosting Bon Iver," manager Robin Shepherd told AAP on Monday night.

In the 15 minutes after the post went live on Facebook, Mr Shepherd had more than 50 calls from fans trying to find out what was going on.

"I've been sitting here trying to do paperwork. I'm waiting for a call from a supplier and every person phoning up (is asking) 'Bon Iver?'," Mr Shepherd said.

The image says "121 Johnston St Fitzroy, September 29 2016, 6.30pm".

Mr Shepherd said it could be the wrong address was included and there might be an event at one of the nearby live music venues.
