A Sydney church group on a day tour of the Hunter Valley wine region has forced their bus driver to pull over after he allegedly had too much to drink.

Passengers alerted police and asked their driver to pull over on the side of the M1 motorway at Mooney Mooney at about 7pm on Saturday when they became concerned he was intoxicated, police say.

The 43-year-old driver allegedly returned a positive breath test at the scene and later blew 0.105 at Gosford Police Station.

He has had his licence suspended and will face Gosford Local Court next month for mid-range drink driving.
